Chaos Chronicle
edition 2
released February 4th, 1990
an International Network of Chaos
Publication
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Publisher - THE SHARK/INC
Editor - MASTER KRACKER/INC
Chaos Chronicle (CC) is a magazine
made for the upper class of the
Commodore World. INC feels that we
are the most qualified group to do this
because we have contributed so much and
have been around for so long. This is
a PRO-INC newspaper, so if you see
articles written that support INC, now
you know why. Someone once said that
if you don't like something, change it.
So we have, and this is how we feel a
newspaper should be. We know other
groups have failed to bring you a good
USA newspaper, and we also know you are
tired of seeing European magazines rank
us! It is also said that you never
stay the same; you either get better or
worse. That's why my goal is to always
release a better issue of C.C. than the
previous month. This version of C.C.
is typed in 80 columns, so we recommend
printing it out. C.C. shall be
released every month, and we will do
the best job that we can, so enjoy it.

The Reason Why Chaos
Chronicle is made in Sequential Format
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
I have had several comments asking
me why Chaos Chronicle isn't in a
program format where I could just load
it up and look at it. Well, there are
several reasons, and I would think you
will agree that a sequential form is a
lot better for this purpose. First
off, Eclipse made a little comment
towards INC and Chaos Chronicle saying
that "Surely TMS is capable of coding a
viable presentation for the mag."
Well, TMS is capable, but why should
he? I don't know how to program, so if
he did make it, it would be difficult
for me to understand. Even if he did
make an editor for it, that would mean
that for everyone who writes an article
for C.C., I would have to retype it.
No thanks, son. Take a look at all of
those European disk magazines. Most of
them don't know how to speak English if
they are outside of England (except
Goldfish). Also, when I look at those
magazines, they are more of a demo.
They have a lot of sprites and fancy
logos and so forth. When I get a
magazine, I expect to read good
articles, not to get a picture book.
From now on, instead of calling C.C. a
magazine, I will call it a newspaper.
Second, have you seen the size of those
program magazines? 400 blocks of a
program magazine would be equivalent to
150 or less in sequential form. Third,
how many pirates have a printer? I
would say about one-fifth, where as in
Europe, maybe one out of 100 pirates
have a printer over there. What this
basically boils down to is that I can
do this magazine without the hassle of
a program editor, done in a small
efficient size, so people can
understand the magazine better. *It's
quick to load, and no hassle. So take
this rap and stick it up your asshole.*

What being #1 is Really About..
by The Executioner
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Well, I started back around '85 or
'86 pirating... I got to know this
local guy that ran a pirate bbs that
phreaked... He gave me a local 950 that
was 5 digit codes, fiber optice lines,
called overseas, this was a phreaker's
dream... So I got some good boards #'s
and started getting to know what being
a pirate was kinda about... The pirate
world looked so glamorious and great
too me... I wanted so much to be known
by everyone and wanted to be at the
top, the center of attention... I got
to know some elite guys, started to run
warez for big named groups... I was
ready to do anything to become #1... As
I went along and got in some good
groups, I didn't really like the pirate
world as much as I thought I would.. I
was getting sick of the pirates, warez,
codes, everything... So I looked for
another way out... I found out a little
about the other side of the computer
world, hacking... I stuck to this for
awhile and really enjoyed it a lot.. I
got to know a lotta cool guys, learned
a lot about telephone companys, vmb's,
systems, ect ect... But I could only
handle this for awhile.. Hacking isn't
really that interesting.. Only if yur
in a war...
So anyways, I took my knowledge, and
came back to the warez scene... When I
came back, I got in a well-known group,
got kicked out.. Started a shit group,
killed that group... Then finally I
joined a group that I belonged in, XDS!
See, there was a goal that I wanted
very much... To be #1! I tried so hard
too reach where I am today... Anyways,
the point is that if you really want
something, you just hafta put a lotta
time and hard work into it to reach
your goal... The computer takes up a
lot of my time and some points it seems
that my social life is total shit! But
I've gotten to know so many cool guys
and have done things that many only
dream about...
But on the other hand... Being at
the top isn't what it's made out to
be.. I can honestly say that there are
just as many times where you get to the
point where you wanna sell yur computer
than having a wild time... Getting fone
calls at 5 and 6am from a european
saying he has a game or his code died..
Taking the heat for a game not being
ntsc fixed.. Yur contact's code died
and you hafta go thru the shit to get
them anuther one.. It's very stressful
at times and not fun at all... These
are just a little portion of some of
the things that an importer/hacker
hasta go thru...
The main point I'm trying to get
thru to is that if you really wanna
reach the highest point in eliteness,
it's gonna take A LOT of hard work and
a lot of time... But also remember what
I'm talking about in this article...
If there are any lamers reading this
right now, just keep in mind that being
#1 isn't as great as it looks.. Theres
a lot more to it than asking a european
for a carrier (in my case anyways)..
I'd like to send special hello's to
Stormbringer, Gazoo, Grim Reaper, and
Warewolf.. I'd also like to say hi to
all the great groups like Atc, Nec,
Exc, ect ect... And most of all I'd
like to yell to Inc... I'm glad to see
you guys are back on yur feet and
moving again... I love all you pirates
(Don't take that in the wrong way) and
I'd like to thank The Shark for
printing this article...
Just remember, being #1 isn't what
it's made out to be...

(We in C.C. did not correct the
spelling mistakes made in this article
due to the fact that this is the way he
wanted to type it. Words like 'yur',
'fone', and 'lotta' are his way alone,
so don't think that we missed the
errors; they were intentional. We feel
that this is the author's dialect and
must be expressed this way or it will
not come across as the way he intended
it.)

How to Fix Hardware: The Impatient Way
(by The Shark)
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
After my drive went out in late
December, I was extremely mad that it
took repairmen 2 weeks to fix it. Even
after that, I had to take it back so
they could fix it again. This article
is for the people that don't want to go
through the hassle of taking your
equipment to a rip-off computer store.
Have you ever been playing your
favorite game, and all of a sudden
something about your joystick will fuck
up, like the fire-button sticking or
the joystick not moving in a certain
direction? This can be fixed by a way
Mind Slayer has suggested, called the
'I-suck-at-playing-games-and-I-just-got
crushed-by-the-computer-again' method.
Step 1: Remove joystick from port
Step 2: Firmly grasp the end of the
joystick cord
Step 3: Swing joystick above head in a
circular motion (like a lasso)
Step 4: Release against a strong, firm
object (example: wall, cement
floor, Candyman's head, ect.)
The end result of this is that you
should see many fragments from the
joystick that wasn't working, on the
floor
Step 5: Return to store of purchase.
Have you ever been downloading and
your drive starts knocking, or your
drive is going out of alignment? This
way of fixing is my own, called the
'If-you-fucking-knock-again-I-am-going-
to-bust-you-over-my-knee' method.
Step 1: Apply fist to center of disk
drive
Step 2: If crack doesn't appear,
re-apply fist
Step 3: Unscrew every screw in disk
drive and move the head back
and forth
Step 4: Apply sandpaper to head of
drive
Step 5: If all else fails, take drive
and apply to knee. This
should result in the drive
spliting into 2 parts.
Have you ever been either playing a
game or programming, and all of a
sudden your computer resets or just
locks up? This method of fixing is
brought to you by the Hell Hacker,
called the 'I-have-been-lifting-
weights-so-I-can-beat-up-my-computer'
method.
Step 1: Purchase balsa wood weight set
Step 2: Throw balsa weight at computer
Step 3: After balsa wood bounces off
computer, place right hand on
the right side of computer
Step 4: Apply sufficent force to
propel computer towards wall
Step 5: Pick up keys and circuit board
debris, and super-glue back
together.
Step 6: Return to nearest Toys 'R' Us,
and hope that Geoffrey Giraffe
will take it back

The Cesspool (Rumors & News)
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
On Monday the 8th, Oahawhool went to
court and was charged $5,000
restitution to LDDS. He was apparently
hacking on a local dialup, not a 1-800
dialup, which was mistakenly printed in
the last issue. All of his computer
equipment was confiscated, and his case
was the first of its kind in the state
of Kentucky.
Ronksi has claimed that he no longer
owns a C64, and that he now owns a
MacIntosh. An inside source has told
us that Ronski did sell his C64, but he
plans to get another one. He still
doesn't have a MacIntosh or even an
Amiga. Ronski leads the competition
with his 'Lying the Most and Being
Proven Wrong' award. We have also
found out that when Ronski returns, he
doesn't plan to be in Intense. He
plans to start an ALL-BLACK GROUP. He
hopes to add Kickback, Peacemaker, and
Kid Quick to the group.
Eclipse plans to release a USA magazine
in the month of February for programers
and about demos.
Hellrazor/ex-TSM was claiming to be an
INC BBS earlier this month. He was an
F4CG BBS, but he was never an INC BBS.
He did ask if his BBS could belong to
INC, but I pulled out the DENIED stamp
and slapped it on his forehead.
Candyman dated Roseanne Barr when he
was in high school.
UCBBS v1.2 by Pudwerx shall be released
at the end of February with a lot of
new features. Make sure to order this
BBS, because Ivory is outdated and old.
Jimmy Z is receiving his accident money
(an accident he was injured in a while
back) in about 3 weeks. After that, he
plans on putting back up his Wares
Galore BBS a week or two later.
The Green Griffon was billed $1500 for
long distance calls and for hacking on
a local 950 dialup, but he does plan to
return very soon.
As most of you people out there know,
Epyx filed Chapter 11(bankrupcy) in
October. Many rumors were going around
that Epyx was no longer. Well, from
what I have found out, Epyx had only
made a cutback and are still planning
to release software. They plan to stop
making software for the Atari ST due to
the fact of the computer dying out.
Epyx has also made a new type of
machine called Lynx, which is similar
to Nintendo's Game Boy, but is in color
and has been sold to Atari. Epyx has
also planned for California Games 2 to
be released in late summer. They plan
to announce all of their upcoming
software at the JUNE CES show. I
wonder if that's when California Games
2 will be released.
Load up some of Excalibur's games that
were put out earlier this month. Even
though their group listing is at the
top, they put the group membership in
the scroll, while already showing them
on the screen. Boy, that's smart.
Ronski and The Shark had a bet earlier
this month, that INC would not import a
game from Bod/Talent in the month of
January. If INC did, then they would
obtain Ronski's VMB, and if not, then
the opposite would happen. Well, as
you know, INC released World Soccer,
but Ronski, being the coward and liar
that he is, refused to give INC their
honestly-earned VMB. What you should
learn from this is never trust Ronski.
Wild Streets was programmed by
Bod/Talent.
Wanderer released a new game this month
called Jailbreak, also programmed by
Bod/Talent. No, just kidding, but for
once, Wanderer had a decent intro.
Although the game was total crap, it
could have gotten a 1 out of 10 if you
had someone else to draw your graphics.

THE I.N.C. 'COMMON SENSE SYSTEM'
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Rules for the "USA GROUP OF THE MONTH"
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
This is where INC will try to be as
fair as we can. Sometimes USA groups
release the same game within hours of
each other, so I have decided that the
first group have the 100%, completely
working version, and to have it spread
on the major BBS's will get the full
point. Most games from major and minor
companies will count. An SSI game will
be equivalent to a game from Accolade.
A four-sided game will be equivalent to
a 100 block release. If a game needed
an NTSC fix and wasn't fully fixed,
then that would be the only time a USA
re-release of an European game will
count. (Example: The fix for Altered
Beasts wasn't a 100% fix, so the group
to release the USA version would get
the point. Another example: 3-D Pool
worked perfectly on NTSC, therefore the
group that released it wouldn't get a
point...The SUPREME INC JUDGES will
decide whether or not the game was
fully fixed, or if a USA version shall
get the point). Also, there seems to
be a dispute between the sizes of
releases. If some group was to release
a two-sided game, and in the same day
another group released the same game,
but down to one side, then the
one-sided version would get the point.
When two versions are only a few blocks
apart (anywhere from about 1 to 400),
then usually the first to have it out
will get the point. If you haven't
figured it out yet, you win by the
amount of releases you put out, not the
amount of votes you get. One more
thing, INC makes the rules as we go.

(1) NEC (tied for first) [1]
(2) INC (tied for second) [-]

*The brackets after the groups show
what position they were last month, and
a minus sign means either they weren't
kept track of, or weren't in the
rankings last month. I know you just
fell back in your computer chair when
you saw that Mirage was tied for first
place. Well, I can explain. Mirage
did get out a perfectly legitimate game
called Avoid the Noid. The other game
was an old European game called TRAZ.
It was cracked by Fusion and imported
by RAD. Since I have been around for
such a long time, I remember the Fusion
version not working 100%: one level out
of the entire game didn't work. Your
paddle would be locked on a brick and
you couldn't destroy it afterwards.
They earned it whether you like it or
not. Other than that, there was no
other controversy this month. This has
to be a record: five USA groups put out
a USA game in one month. Almost every
USA game this month kicked some ass.
This was a very good month for USA
quality. Now the big question is, who
will be the solo number one group next
month? Could Mirage make it again?

Rules for the
"IMPORTING GROUP OF THE MONTH"
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Basically, they are the same as the
"USA GROUPS of the MONTH". The first
to have a 100%, NTSC-fixed import out
on a majority of the BBS's will get the
point. ALMOST all imports will count
if they are legitimate and are released
by a known company. Trainers will NOT
be a factor on imports or games. The
reason is, when every group tries to
get as many trainers as possible on a
game, a certain incident occurs, which
I call 'trainer wars'. This is where
every group tries to out-train the same
game, and ends up with six or more
trainers on it. It is nice to have
trainers, but too many are disgusting.
One trainer is a luxury, but if you can
get a few more, then that's fine. Most
of these rules are common sense: if the
game is cartridged by a European group,
then no points, and so on... If a game
is put out under a 'joint release',
then the points shall be split for each
of the groups. I feel this system is
the best known procedure; voting for
the best groups just doesn't work. Why
must INC set the rules that you follow?
It should be instinct not to release
crap.

*Once again, with one import, you could
have been in third place. This month
was a very bad month for European
quality releases, and also contained
many controversies. First, Duotris was
originally put out by Excalibur first,
but Syndicate released it on a few
other BBS's. The Excalibur version
wasn't 100% fixed, but the Syndicate
version was. Neither group knew that
the Syndicate version was 100%, but
Excalibur discovered that their version
wasn't 100%. So the next day Excalibur
put out a 100% version, but not only
did they scratch off their old version
everywhere, they falsely claimed that
the Syndicate version wasn't 100%
(which they had only guessed, but had
never verified). Sadly enough,
according to the Common Sense Rules,
their version was spread more. One
thing you should have learned from this
experience is that if you see two
versions of a fix, don't get the
Excalibur version. Next was a game
called Illegen by SOIA. When I was
playing it, it randomly locked up and I
couldn't get passed the first level.
Another questionable game was Wild
Streets, which didn't receive a point
because it was a piece of shit. Tron
was a re-release, originally put out by
Public Enemy in early 1988 called Light
Cycles. Darkland was given to TSM (not
RTI) because their version was spread
nowhere. Mountain Bike Racer was also
put out by Citadel first, but they
idiotically only sent it to one BBS.
Naturally, they got beat by Excalibur.
Fantasy also released The Champ, but
Dominators didn't send it to them.
They sent it to Warez Castle to release
just as /DOM, but Fantasy took the game
and put their intro on it. Point goes
to Dominators.

Demos Worth Getting in the Month of
January
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
I know that I (THE SHARK) am not a
programmer, and that to see me judge
demos isn't right. I have decided to
do it this month, but next month a
certain programmer shall judge this
section instead. He will probally base
his decision on the internal work (the
coding itself). I am judging what
appeals to my eyes as a non-programmer.
Beef Jerky/Venom: A funny little demo
with a nice storyline. Not too much
going on the screen except for a lot of
moving balls and Javier in action.
Climax 1/Lords: Neat looking DNA
effect.
Climax 2/Lords: Nice little box with
neat effects in it.
Conspiricy/Havok: Smooth DYCP scroll.
Decade/Eclipse & Morissey: A cool
scroll effect.
Sonic/Evil & Venom: Its best feature
was its nice logos and graphics.
Xenocode/Dark Sword & Shamus: Two
unheard-of programmers that are pretty
good coders. All they need now is a
good graphics artist.

Group News
-+-+-+-+-+
ATC - They had one of their more
consistent times this month. ATC has
been known to usually put out only one
game per month, but this time they got
out two, and tied for first place in
the USA rankings.
Citadel - Had one release this month,
but blew it. This group has a
membership of Asterix, Eclipse,
Mantronix, and Rad Man.
Excalibur - The number one importing
group of the month, but they didn't
achieve the quality that they had last
month. I don't think that these guys
deserve the #1 position they are at,
due to the fact of the re-releases,
lame games, and bad fixes. They must
achieve perfection before I would
consider them a 'decent' group. They
released Wild Streets, which was
rejected by the INC Supreme Judges, and
also put out TRON, a re-release
originally put out by Public Enemy in
1988. They also added Gizmo to their
membership. (A piece of advice for you
pirates: it's not hard to get to #1,
it's hard staying there.)
Exodus - They added Grim Reaper to the
group. They had also added Warez King,
but did not get full approval of every
member while he was in, so one week
later he was back out of Exodus. They
released one preview this month called
'Exorcist'.
Fantasy - Somehow, they cloned the East
Berlin effect: half of their population
left. They lost Asterix, Kickback,
Mantronix, Rad Man, and Warez King.
They did, however, gain Flyboy. They
also released two previews this month,
but as you know, only the 100% version
counts. They didn't get credit for
The Champ due to 'grand theft
importing'. Fantasy is no longer
trading with DCS.
INC - The only group to be on both the
USA and importing charts. Proved
everyone wrong that we were dead. Also
released the best game of the month.
Intense - According to Candyman, the
group is now concentrating more on
putting out major releases. So only
expect a few games here and there from
them.
Mirage - They stunned the pirate world
by tying for #1, although they also put
out many re-releases this month, and
have too many members to name. I think
that Mirage could be a decent group if
they would concentrate on getting out
new games (like Avoid the Noid),
instead of trying to get European
re-releases. One thing I am wondering
is that if Mirage will EVER be in the
C.C. rankings again. Was this a lucky
month?
NEC - This month was one of the first
times NEC had to share the #1 position
in the past 6 months. They kicked
X-man out and added Trojan to the
group.
Occult - They are now trading with DCS,
and because of that, Fantasy and Occult
have been fighting. Other than that,
very little known about them, although
rumors have been going around that they
might join Excalibur.
Syndicate - Grim Reaper terminated the
group after joining Exodus. Syndicate
(in my opinion) was a very good group.
Everything they did worked and they
usually did a good job with putting out
the best version of an import. It's
too bad to see these guys go.
TSM - Still no USA games from this
group. Hell Hacker's computer isn't
fixed yet. The silence is hurting the
group this month, because they then
lost Hellrazor, Rad Man, and Trojan,
although they had added Kickback. They
did, however, get out an import, and a
full-sided European demo.
